What is SpeeDisc Golf?
SpeeDisc Golf is a high-energy, fast-paced version of disc golf where players race to finish a course using the fewest throws and the least amount of time using at least two, but not more than 4 discs (player choice). Every throw and every second counts! No better work-out and don't be surprised if you score your best shots under preasure (Intuative fast throws).
How to Play
Simple Scoring Formula:
SpeeDisc Golf Score = (Total Throws ) + (Total Minutes x 0.5)
- Players must carry a minimum of 2 discs and no more than 4.
- Time begins at the moment of the first throw and ends when the player makes contact with the final completed basket by tapping the chains, with a disc in hand, to complete the Final Tap (also called the Victory Tap).
- Standard disc golf rules apply (play disc where it lies, OB penalties, etc.).
- PLAYER COURTESY: Respect the slower pace of other disc golfers. Pause your stop-watch or ask permission to play through. (Don't hi-jack their turn at the basket just because you want to sprint through things).
Game Modes
- Solo Time Trial: Complete the course individually for your best SpeeDisc Golf Score. Personal bests or compare to your your buddies!
- Relay Team Play: Teams of 2 or more players that hand-off at set points (or baskets) while the clock is ticking!
- Head-to-Head Battles: Two players start at the same time, race to finish first with the best score. First one to make the Final Tap on the last basket wins!
Strategy & Tips
- Balance speed, accuracy, and disc selection.
- Choose how many discs to carry based on your play style:
- 2 discs: Minimal load for maximum speed. One disc remains in hand while the other marks the lie. Fast, efficient, but limited options.
- 3 discs: Balanced approach. Often a driver, midrange, and putter. Offers flexibility without being bulky.
- 4 discs: Maximum strategic variety. Great for players who want options for every shot, but requires more to carry.
- Why 2 discs minimum? While one disc lies on the ground to mark your next throw, the other must remain in-hand, both for continuous movement, honest place keeping and to complete the Final Tap (where the round ends by tapping the chains of last basket of the course with a disc in hand).
- Plan your throws in advance to maintain momentum.
- Practice throwing while on the move to maximize time savings.
- DON'T FORGET TO PICK UP YOUR DISC ON THE GROUND BEFORE MOVING ON!

Disc Limit: Minimum of 2 discs. 4 Discs Maximum (Player Choice)
Each player must carry at least two discs and may carry up to four during SpeeDisc Golf play.
This rule encourages both speed and strategy:
- Allows for players to throw one disc while approaching the lie of another.
- Maintains the spirit of disc golf by supporting a driver, midrange, and putter setup.
- Keeps gameplay light, fast, and fair without full disc bags.
Whether you're a seasoned competitor or new to the game, the 2 to 4 disc limit keeps play fast-paced, tactical and honest. One disc marks your lie or rests in the basket, while the others are in flight or held in-hand for the decisive Final Tap.
SpeeDisc Golf Scoring Methods
SpeeDisc Golf offers two ways to score your games, depending on the level of competition:
1. Simple Casual Scoring
Best for casual rounds or friendly competitions.
Formula:
Total Throws + (Total Minutes X's 0.5)
- Simply add your total throws to half of your total minutes played.
- Lower scores are better!
2. Pro SDR (SpeeDisc Golf Rating) Scoring
Best for tournaments, official rankings, and competitive play.
Formula:
(Minutes Played ÷ Par for Course) × (Throws Taken ÷ Baskets Played) × 100
- Balances your playing speed and throwing accuracy.
- Lower SDR scores reflect stronger overall performance.
- Scores under 100 are considered excellent!
- SDR can be used for a single game or averaged across multiple rounds (e.g., your last 90 baskets) to determine your current SpeeDisc Golf Ranking.
